comments for rurouni robert

So, are you wondering what the heck is going on here? Well, I'll do my best to explain. :-)

Omake

First of all, Rurouni Robert is an omake ("extra") comic. And it's a crossover/parody of TUT and the manga/anime series Rurouni Kenshin. If you don't know it ... well, sorry. It's a really good series, I think. :-)

The Idea

The idea was hatched late one night when my boyfriend asked me if Robert has any named attacks. I replied that he doesn't, but that it'd be fun if Lukas made some up. That led to the idea of making a parody of TUT in which Robert does have named attacks. Like Kenshin ...
The comic was sketched out very quickly, me giggling over the silly jokes and enjoying putting my characters in those roles. Robert looks a little like Kenshin (like the serious Kenshin; at least his eyes do, and his hair if it's ponytailed), but his personality really doesn't fit the character. Yahiko is, in my opinion, an annoying brat, and I have a feeling that a 7 -10 years younger Lukas might have been just as annoying (though not anywhere as easy to impress).

The Drawing Style

The drawing style used in Rurouni Robert is more sketchy than my usual style. I was encouraged to try that look by Sexylyon. It proved useful because I could draw the complete omake very fast. Inking the whole thing was different from what I usually do. At times, I didn't even have what I was inking sketched out first.
As for page layouts and speed lines ... It's partly experiments, and partly a parody on the Rurouni Kenshin manga.

... And the Mistakes!

I know, I know. In TUT, Robert does use both hands, but how can he change his way of holding the sword so fast in this comic?, etc. Like I said, inking went really fast, so I didn't pay too much attention to the ... erh, details. ^_^x; And the ending is the worst ending possible, isn't it? But hey, I was having fun. :-)

What's with the Japanese?!

If you know Japanese, you'll have noticed that the attack Robert uses has a very, erh, funny name. I just thought it sounded like an attack. Really. Just try yelling it yourself. ;-).
The kana (Japanese signs) are courtesy of my boyfriend. :-)

Comments are, as always, welcome. :-) Well, I hope you enjoyed Rurouni Robert. I'll continue the real TUT now, okay? :-)
